I recently spotted this excellent video explanation of Serato Scratch Sticker Sync from DJ Ricky Jay:
What is Sticker Sync?
Sticker Sync is a hidden feature inside Serato Scratch Live.
Apparently it’s due to be upgraded to an official feature in the next version of Serato DJ: 1. 7.1.
Garageband ipad tutorial complete beginners guide skillshare download. Sticker Sync uses Serato’s existing drop to cue feature and takes it one step further.
All of the DJ's playlists in Serato DJ Intro, Serato iTCH, Serato DJ and Scratch Live will use the same library. Serato uses a Crates feature to help the DJ keep music files organized. Crates are virtual playlists or a collection of specific music that contain the DJ’s music. Deleting Crates and Tracks 28 Copy & Move Files & Folders 28 Copying & Moving Crates 28. The Existing Drop to Cue Option works like this:
- Drop the needle on track 1 – cue point 1 is triggered wherever you drop the needle.
- Drop the needle on track 2 – cue point 2 is triggered wherever you drop the needle.
- Drop the needle on track 3 – cue point 3 is triggered wherever you drop the needle… and so on for all 5 cue points.
When Sticker Sync is enabled, no matter where you drop the needle on a track, for example at say 11 o’clock, 6 o’clock etc, the sample won’t play until your sticker gets to 2 o’clock (or 12 o’clock if you prefer)! It’s similar to how you mark up your vinyl for juggling – marking where the sample starts. This minimises confusion. The sample will always start at your chosen sticker mark.
Without using Sticker Sync, you would have to remember to manually move your record into the 2 or 12 o’clock position then drop the needle to trigger the cue point in the correct place. It saves a lot of time and hassle, especially when doing routines that require speed!
Sticker sync works by dividing the record in half – for example, if your sticker is set to 12 o’clock, if you drop the needle on to the track between 6 and 12 o’clock you play the record forward to 12 o’clock to get to the sample / cue point, if you drop the needle between 12 and 6 o’clock, you rewind the record backward to get to the sample / cue point.
How To Setup and Activate Sticker Sync
Sticker sync is an unofficial hidden feature / easter egg. Here’s how to set it up and activate it.
The following instructions were sourced from the Serato Forums.
1 – Mark your Serato Control Vinyl Records at TRUE 12 o’clock.
This video shows you how:
(If you prefer to mark your records at the needle position of approx. 2 o’clock, first ensure the serato line is in the TRUE 12 o’clock position, THEN put your sticker at 2 o’clock position.)
*** UPDATE / EDIT ***
@radikarl Karl Yankovic has kindly updated me on how the next part works so here is the updated version:
2 – Create 2 new crates, in Scratch Live 2.3 and above, and name them as follows:
stickersync-cue
(Controls sticker sync when you drop to cue points)
(Controls sticker sync when you drop to cue points)
stickersync-double
(Controls sticker sync if you are using instant doubles)
(Controls sticker sync if you are using instant doubles)
3 – Add one of the following letters to the end of the 2 crates you just created to set the Sticker Sync behaviour:
Add the letter N to make Sticker Sync behave exactly as how Ricky Jay is using it – splitting the record into two hemispheres and then scrolling forward or backwards, whatever is N.earest:
stickersync-cueN
stickersync-doubleN
stickersync-doubleN
//
If you prefer to ALWAYS spin F.orward to hit the cue, add the letter F:
stickersync-cueF
stickersync-doubleF
stickersync-doubleF
//
If you prefer to ALWAYS spin B.ackward to hit the cue, add the letter B:
stickersync-cueB
stickersync-doubleB
stickersync-doubleB
//
Finally, should you wish to disable Sticker Sync completely, add the letter D (so you don’t need to delete the crates):
stickersync-cueD
stickersync-doubleD
stickersync-doubleD
//
If you enable the Sticker Sync feature, it works for both loading songs and when you drop the needle.
You do NOT need to put any tracks in any of these crates. Simply creating and naming the creates as above activates the feature. It will affect every track in your library.
4 – Finally, ensure that the following options are checked in the Serato SETUP screen:
Playback > Play from first cue point:
Vinyl Control > Drop to cue points:
That’s it! Sticker Sync should now just automatically work!
Yay for Serato being able to emulate how Turntablists use real vinyl and cue points!
Summary
Big shout out to…

This article has been kicking around the forums at Serato.com for some time now, but we felt it could use a revival. If you're new or old to digital DJing, at some point in your DJ career, you will inevitably need to move your Serato Software library to another computer or to another hard drive. This article covers the following common scenarios:
- Moving your library from an internal drive to and external drive.
- Moving your library from an external to an internal drive.
- Moving your library from an internal drive to another internal drive.
- Moving your library from an external drive to another external drive.
The longer you DJ, the more audio and/or video files you'll accumulate. Chances are, you'll find that the free space on your internal hard drive will start to run out. Luckily, external storage is very inexpensive and is an attractive option for expanding your storage options.
Note: Moving libraries is not an easy task and requires a degree of computer knowledge, patience and care. Before you attempt to move your library, ensure you have made a backup in case you need to revert back. Check out the article on backing up your library here.
Moving from an Internal Hard Drive to an External Hard Drive
This section will take you through the steps to move your library from your internal hard drive to an external hard drive:
1) Ensure your Serato Software is closed.
2) Connect your external hard drive to your computer.
3) Open Windows Explorer (PC) or Finder (Mac) and navigate to the location on your internal hard drive where your music and/or video files are currently stored.
4) Copy your music and/or video files to the new location on the external hard drive.
5) Go back to the original folder on your internal hard drive where your files were stored. Rename this folder (e.g., If this folder was called Music Files, rename it to Music Files_1).
6) Open your Serato Software.
7) Click the Files button to open the Files panel, then click the Rescan ID3 Tags button. Once this is complete, all the files in the folder you renamed will now be flagged as missing in your library (don't worry, this is what we want to happen).
8) While still in the Files panel, navigate to the new location on the external hard drive where you copied your files. Drag this folder onto the Relocate Lost Files button (this button is also in the Files panel). Your Serato Software will look for the missing files in this folder location.
When this completes, your library and crates will be matched up to the new location of your files on the external drive.
Note: Your original files are still on the Internal hard drive, however your Serato Software will no longer reference them in the library or your crates. You can now leave these files where they are as a backup or delete them.

Moving Between Two Computers
Moving Crates In Scratch Live In Texas
When the time comes to upgrade, you'll need to move your library and crates to your new computer. Note: You will need an external hard drive to do this:
1) Ensure your Serato Software is closed.
2) Connect the external hard drive to the computer you're moving from.
3) Copy the folder containing your music and video files to the external hard drive.

4) Copy the _Serato_ folder to the external. Depending on which type of computer you have, you will find the _Serato_ folder in the following folder:
Windows XP/Vista/7: My Music
Mac: Music
Note: These are the default Music folders for each operating system.

8) Copy your music and/or video files to the new location on the internal hard drive that you want them in.
9) Disconnect the external hard drive.
10) Open up your Serato Software.
11) Click the Files button to open the Files panel and then click the Rescan ID3 Tags button. Once this is complete, all the files you've copied will now be flagged as missing in your library.

Moving from one External Hard Drive to Another External Hard Drive
1) Ensure your Serato Software Intro is closed.
2) Connect both of the external hard drives to your computer.
3) Open Windows Explorer (PC) or Finder (Mac) and navigate to the external hard drive you want to copy from. In the root directory* of the drive you will see a _Serato_ folder. Copy this folder to the root directory of the drive you want to use.
Note: The _Serato_ folder must be in the root directory of an external drive. If it is not, your Serato Software will not see it and your library and crates will not display.
4) Navigate to the folder where your music and/or video files currently are on the external hard drive you want to copy from. Copy this folder to the new location on the external hard drive that you want them in.
Note: The term 'root directory' refers to the first or top most directory in a file system hierachy.

5) Disconnect the external hard drive you copied from.
6) Open your Serato Software.
When this completes, your library and crates will be matched up to the new location of your files on the new external drive, but only if you have moved these to the exact same location as they were on the previous external drive. If you have not moved them to the same directory, you will need to follow these steps:
- Click the Files button to open the Files panel and then click the Rescan ID3 Tags button. Once this is complete, all the files you've copied will now be flagged as missing in your library.
- While still in the Files panel, navigate to the new location on the external hard drive where you copied your files. Drag this folder onto the Relocate Lost Files button (this button is also in the Files panel). Your Serato Software will look for the missing files in this folder.
- Your library and crates should now be updated with the new locations on your new external hard drive.
